Strategic Finance Analyst

Data, applied where it matters

Turn financial complexity into clear commercial direction.

Location:

Penrose, Auckland

Work Type:

Hybrid, with regular on-site collaboration preferred

The Role

This role turns complex financial and commercial information into clear, actionable insight. As a Strategic Finance Analyst, you’ll work across finance, strategy and analytics to understand business performance, evaluate strategic options and support recommendations for decision-makers.

You’ll develop financial models, commercial analyses and scenario plans that make the implications of different decisions visible. Working closely with our strategy and data teams, you’ll ensure the analysis is both technically robust and grounded in the realities of the client’s business.

Your work may support decisions in boardrooms, commercial negotiations and operational planning. You’ll gain exposure across different industries in New Zealand and internationally, with meaningful ownership from initial question through to delivered insight.

What you’ll do

  • Translate complex financial, commercial and operational information into clear business insight.
  • Build and maintain financial models, commercial analyses and scenario plans.
  • Analyse performance drivers, forecasts, profitability and potential business outcomes.
  • Evaluate strategic options and make their financial and commercial implications visible.
  • Support the development of practical, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Work with the Strategy Lead to understand client challenges, objectives and decision requirements.
  • Collaborate with the data team to integrate robust analytics, modelling and visualisation.
  • Prepare high-quality analysis and materials for client discussions and key insight delivery.
  • Contribute to project scoping, planning, coordination and delivery across the team.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong structured thinking and the ability to bring clarity to complex or incomplete information.
  • Financial fluency, including confidence interpreting P&Ls, forecasts and commercial performance.
  • Strong financial modelling, scenario analysis and analytical capability.
  • Sound business acumen and an understanding of the drivers that shape revenue, margin, cost and value.
  • The ability to connect insights across finance, strategy, data and operations.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to produce accurate, well-structured analysis and decision-ready materials.
  • Comfort supporting client engagements and equipping senior team members with high-quality insight.
  • A curious, adaptable and solutions-focused approach.
  • Comfort working in a small, high-trust team where you own outcomes end to end.

The role will likely suit someone with approximately three to six years of relevant experience, although capability, judgement and potential matter more than years on paper. Experience in a corporate finance team, consultancy, start-up or commercial analytics environment would be valuable but is not essential.
